The real secret behind Elon Musk’s success (hint: it’s not drugs)

Hello, Gamestormers!

How does Elon Musk work an alleged 120 hours per week? A recent Inc. article proposes an answer:

Those who put in a great deal of time per week, week after week, are those who have one free thing that others don't. It's not that they have the superhuman ability to survive without sleep, have incredible time management skills, or are powered by a tremendous amount of motivation.

They have fun.

The only way a founder can sustain working an incredibly high number of hours every week, month after month, is by having fun. And psychology proves it.

There’s more! A study published in the Association for Psychological Science adds to Inc.’s assertion:

Although we tend to believe that time flies when we're having a good time, these studies indicate what it is about the enjoyable time that causes it to go by more quickly. It seems to be the goal pursuit or achievement-directed action we're engaged in that matters. Just being content or satisfied may not make time fly, but being excited or actively pursuing a desired object can.

If you’re thinking the psychological concept of “flow” relates to this, you’re right: when we are in flow states we perceive time passing faster. Other flow benefits include: higher degree of enjoyment, fulfillment, happiness, motivation, productivity, learning and skill development and creativity.

If fun-> flow and flow -> all of that, you might be asking: how can I get my team into a flow state more often?
